Stennis (CVN 74) is underway in the Andaman Sea during exercises with the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Ships and aircraft of the George Washington and John C. Stennis carrier strike groups are conducting exercises to increase interoperability, readiness, and the capability to respond quickly to various potential crises in the region, ranging from combat operations to humanitarian assistance. Trotz Hightech an Bord: Ein für schwere Kriegsangriffe gebautes amerikanisches Atom-U-Boot ist an der Küste von Florida in einen Militär-Raketenkreuzer geknallt. Außer einem Sachschaden in Millionenhöhe sind derzeit keine weiteren Probleme bekannt. Das Atom-U-Boot (USS Montpelier; SSN 765) war auf einer Übungstour.

Bekannt ist bislang allerdings, dass der Raketenkreuzer ein richtiges Schlachtschiff mit 175 Metern Länger war. Es heißt, an Bord hätten sich rund 110 Besatzungsmitglieder befunden. Es handelt sich um den Kreuzer USS San Jacinto (CG 56).
Die US-Navy teilte mit, beide Boote seien Bestandteil eines Manövers rund um den Kampfverband des Flugzeugträgers „Harry S. Truman“ (aircraft carrier).
